We are currently using NetBackup along with the SharePoint 2010 extension to get a granular backup and recovery. This provides, for the most part, what we need it for - the day to day availability support.
Now I am searching for tools that go farther. I am looking for tools that might provide a full farm backup in a form that could then be used in a disaster recovery to recreate the entire farm on a remote site in case of a major disaster.
The environment is a mix of hardware and virtual components. The hardware obviously isn't itself going to be able to be recreated by a software package.
However, our sharepoint farm is a series of virtual servers. Those are currently being backed up by NetBackup of a separate nature.
Is there a NetBackup configuration - or perhaps a separate Symantec product - that can be used to create a consistent full backup of the SharePoint farm that could then be used to restore the software, settings, and database contents of the farm?
The goal would be high speed recovery automated so that the process could be underway while support staff are recovering and moving into place.
